Moe. + Mandolin

Driving Over $17K in Ancillary Revenue at the Drive-In

Like Tin Cans and Car Tires, But Digital

As one of the foundational jam and improvisational rock bands to emerge out of the 90s, the members of moe. are old hats at adventurous experimentation. To the delight of their avid fan base—lovingly referred to as “moe.rons”—the band has developed a reputation for taking chances, blending a wide variety of rock through a humorous, innovative lens that pushes audiences to embrace jamming out in the moment.

With COVID-19 transforming the face of the live entertainment industry, the band quickly realized they could put a fresh spin on an American classic: concerts from the car. After securing Cape Cod’s legendary Yarmouth Drive-In, moe. sought a way to extend the reach of their two-show series beyond the parking lot into the digital space so all of their fans could join in on the jam sesh. With just two days left until show time, the band needed a light-weight live streaming partner that could easily plug into the existing production while also helping diehard moe.rons around the world get into the show.

Teaming Up With Mandolin was No Doy

With Mandolin’s help, live stream production was a breeze. After a brief consultation, the band was able to support live streaming within hours by simply plugging in the production crew’s existing sound board and screens into Mandolin’s intuitive platform.

With the logistics of streaming handled, moe. also turned to Mandolin for help with ticketing. From a single show to double show tickets, live stream attendees had a plethora of experiences to choose from, including the option to add a unique show poster to their ticket bundle.

Once ticketing was set-up, the Mandolin marketing team put out the digital moe.ron beacon, drawing fans from all corners of the globe via social, email, affiliates and even Mandolin subscribers.

And The Jam Keeps Going

After two days of rocking out for moe.rons around the world, the band was blown away by the results. From an effortless production integration to flexible ticketing packages, the addition of live streaming to the band’s show offerings generated over $17K in gross ticket sales in just two days, a 13% increase in overall sales.

With ~70% of sales generated from two-show series tickets and a little over a quarter of sales including merch, moe. quickly realized how live streaming can enhance an in-person show by reaching beyond a local population and connecting with fans all over the world. Because of this discovery, the band now considers live streaming a standard part of their touring package, adding four more live stream shows to the Mandolin platform before the end of the year.

"Working with the Mandolin team was a fantastic experience. They worked quickly and efficiently to confirm, build and broadcast our first two livestreams together. The band was thrilled for the unexpected additional revenue and our fans, who could not join us at the drive in, were thrilled to watch live shows from the comfort of their own homes."
